Doctor's Orders: Lime Creek
This past week, Aaron had a couple days off of the river and we realized that we couldn't remember the last time that just he and I did something fun without the Dink. Unfortunately, I came down with some kind of 24 hour sickness on Monday night and had to call in sick Tuesday while Emma went to school......So we went and fished Lime Creek on Tuesday! I think it was the first time that I have done that and it was worth it!
There are a couple of great things about Lime Creek fishing: no one else is around, you always fish dry flies, you're going to catch a lot of fish and it was sooo much cooler up there then in town (We are currently in our annual 2 week HOT, HOT spell that happens every July). We landed about 20 fish ranging from 3 in to 10 in. Almost all the fish were Brookies, except for a couple of Rainbows. This Week's TOP TEN
10. Our friends Dan and Nicole visited Durango for the weekend with their daughter, Hadley (3) and new son, Braxton (8 weeks).
9. Jackson made a special guest appearance at Emma's school.
8. Emma's newest trick: She'll ask for something and then clap twice in your face......"Mama - Juice please CLAP CLAP"...as if we need someone else telling us to hurry up!
7. Aaron is glad to be off the river - Last week he had a 5 day trip with the SAME clients.
6. Aaron and I just booked a September getaway to Lee's Ferry for a weekend. Emma can clap at someone else for the weekend.
5. We spent a wonderful day at Trimble Hot Springs on Sunday. Emma has advanced to "I swim by myself because I have arm floaties" status.
4. Bonnie and I played golf last week and on the 9th hole there were about 30 geese that did not want to move. So we teed off anyways - and I was convinced one of them were going to be on a platter for Christmas dinner! Everyone survived - including Bonnie and me.
3. The bumper of the Subaru was re-attached. For $30.
2. Our first tomato has appeared in our garden.

July 4th Weekend
July 4th Weekend
This weekend was jam packed, action filled fun! On Friday afternoon, we all headed over to the Carozza's house for Cajun Boil. For those of you not familiar with the Cajun Boil - it is crab, shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage - and it has some kick to it! We have celebrated the 4th of July with the Carozzas for the past 4 years...and it has become a tradition...but they were going to be at a wedding on the 4th..so we celebrated on the 3rd instead. The Carozza back deck and back yard is one of our favorite places to hang out. There's always a bocce game and the vi
ew from the backyard is incredible - overlooking the river, the north end of town, and right at the La Plata mountains. Emma played with Sam, Owen and Mia and somehow they all ended up sliding down the slide into the pool - until we made them stop. Here's a cute picture of Emma and Owen stealing sips of soda:
My brother, Bryan, arrived into town late Friday night after driving from the Hoover Dam that morning. Bryan is in the Air Force and is currently based in Louisiana. He left home on Thursday night, went to the Hoover Dam, stopped by the Grand Canyon and was at our house by Friday night. That's some serious mileage.
On Saturday morning, Emma and I ran in the town 5K with a bunch of our friends...however, the race was definitely longer than a 5K and my time might have been slightly affected by the 10 lb boulder that was placed in the bottom of the jogging stroller while Emma and I stepped away for a moment. Running a race on a holiday always makes me feel better about my above-average beer consumption!
Later that afternoon, I watched the Carozza kids while they attended a wedding. Four kids under the age of 5 may seem like a lot...but they all entertain each other and it was actually quite easy. In fact, the Carozza kids were perfectly behaved while our monster lived up to her name! Aaron arrived after his trip on the San Juan and I think the kids had fun climbing on him while he slept on the chair. Unfortunately, Emma hit the wall before it even started getting dark, so Aaron took her home and missed the fireworks. But Jace, Aaron's dad, drove up from Bloomfield and Bryan & Tracy arrived after dinner in time for the fireworks. The funny thing about Aaron taking Emma home...She went to sleep and then was woken up by the fireworks in the neighborhood and was awoke when I finally got home! Here's Bryan and I...about 3 years since the last time I saw him:
Sunday was a big day - Aaron finally had a day off. The only plans we had for Sunday were breakfast of burritos and doughnuts (Aaron's favorite) and then hitting up the river. We floated the 2 hour section of the Animas. The water level was just right - not too high so Emma could go and not too low so we were dodging rocks the whole time. It was Emma's first raft trip and she loved every minute of it. She was soooo sad when her and Aaron got out of the boat to walk around Smelter Rapid!

This Week's TOP TEN!!
10. I watched Emma eat liquid hand soap the other day. I thought it was kinda funny. Then I wondered if she would do it again. Today, I watched her eat/drink bubbles. Slow learner...
9. Aaron had a very successful week on the river. His client on Thursday had so much fun, he booked Aaron again on Saturday.
8. Aaron's childhood friend from Wichita, Matt Keller, stopped by unexpectedly on his trip from LA to Denver. It was great to see him before he departs on an extended, out-of-country business trip.
7. My brother, Bryan, who I have not seen in 3 years, was in town for the weekend. It was great for Emma to meet and hang out with her uncle and to do fun, summer Durango things....raft, trimble hot springs, back deck shannigans at the Carozza house, etc.
6. Aaron's dad, Jace, surprised us by being in town. He was visiting his mom in Bloomfield and drove up for the fireworks on Saturday.
5. Emma and I ran a July 4th 6k with some friends. I was about 2.5 miles into the race, running up hill and looking down at the jogging stroller...and noticed that someone put a 10 lb boulder in the bottom of the stroller...Like pushing Emma solo isn't hard enough....It's the last time I leave the stroller unattended with "friends".
4. For Aaron's Saturday morning trip, he left the house at 4:30 AM. Here's a picture of him helping me babysit 4 kids under 5 that afternoon:
And yes....there is 1 kid missing in the picture...don't know where she was.
3. They finally released what killed Michael Jackson. Food poisioning - they found 12 year old nuts and a 3 year old weiner in his mouth (Sorry...couldn't resist!).
2. DOG FOR SALE: Continually eats through the same part of the fence when it is too hot, too cold, too rainy, too loud, too lonely... Give you a good deal. Will throw in a bag of dog food.
1. We officially have a potty-trained toddler!!!! This may be on the "Top 10 Accomplishments in Life" list.

Aaron's Gone National
On Monday, Aaron had some big-time clients that he guided on the San Juan. Jeff and Taylor Turner, a father-son duo, are traveling across the United States fishing trophy waters of 50 states in 50 days. And Aaron was the featured guide for the trophy waters in New Mexico. The stop on the San Juan was their 20th state in 17 days. If you want to check out more about their journey, states fished, etc - check out http://www.fish5050.com/. They are documenting the whole trip with daily journals and video footage. The trip is being sponsored by big outdoor companies like ESPN, Simms, and Trout Unlimited. Anyways, Aaron googled the trip this afternoon....and the first link that showed up was the fishing report with Aaron on ESPN.com. I mean, he's being mentioned on the same site as Kobe, Tiger, A Rod....This is Aaron's wet dream come true!
The fishing was good - They landed 14 12-17" fish and lost over 20 in a 1/2 day of fishing. But Aaron was excited to be a part of this father-son journey, glad to share the San Juan with them and proud to be the guide representing the New Mexico trophy waters.
