As I start to write this post, I remembered that the very first entry to this blog was from Mother's Day two years ago. Aaron, Emma and I had taken a trip to the Arkansas river to fish the non-existent caddis hatch. That weekend was so much fun - Aaron and I still talk about how Emma was the dirty littlest kid that could not get enough of playing, rolling and eating the dirt. We could barely get her into the tent to sleep that night. It makes me then think of how much has happened in our lives in just two years and it is crazy to think about. And, of course, of how grateful I am to think about my Mother's day celebrations over the past 4 years. Thank you to Emma and now, to my baby Lunchpie!
This year was equally as wonderful as the past years. On Friday, I was lucky enough to join both Emma and Lunchpie to a Mother's Day tea hosted by The Riverhouse Children's Center. I left with a belly full of yummy homemade snacks, a jar of bath salts from Emma and a hand-painted pot full of flowers from Hannah. I was already feeling pretty lucky!
Earlier in the week, we decided that we would join our friends (The Scheids - Steve, Nancy, Faith (age 8), June (10 months) and Hutch the pet) to camp in Utah outside of Canyonlands. The warm weather and camping was calling our names! Emma has been asking when it would be time to camp since January. However, it is also the time of year when Aaron makes middle-aged men dreams' come true.....fishing on the San Juan...and he booked trips for Saturday and Sunday late in the week.
So the girls and I were off to the desert with our friends. First - poor Steve - totally surrounded by 6 ladies! We scored a sweet camp spot right off the river...or creek...or "crik". Whatever you want to call it - I mean, I know it doesn't look that impressive BUT - hi...hello...there's water in the middle of the desert. It was AWESOME!

After lunch, we headed down the river to a waterfall. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the high school kids from Crested Butte sitting in the river....bragging about their cool illegal fireworks that would light up the night sky. At this point, we were somewhat parched from our adventurous hike down the river to the waterfall. Nancy made them give us each a beer in exchange for not reporting their illegal activities. It worked perfectly! We are also missing pictures of the toad - that I caught and then kissed...multiple times....but no prince appeared. Now, Emma is very skeptical of Princess and The Frog.

After the big afternoon hike, we dined on dutch oven lasagne and smores. And then woke up to a sweet breakfast of bacon, pancakes, fruit salad and COFFEE! I love camping this way! We missed you Aaron! But we had a great weekend. Thanks Scheids!
